Mass-Assigning Elementary Students to Classroom Teachers


Student attendance can be taken by the classroom teacher by computer. In order for a student's name to show on a roster, each student must be enrolled in a in an AM and/or PM section. Most classrooms are full days with an AM and matching PM section. To speed up entry, you can enroll the students in the PM section and they will automatically be enrolled in the AM section. For partial day kindergarten classes, the sections are not linked so students will be placed in only a single, unlinked AM or PM section.

To check to see if ITD has finished creating a set of sections for you to use for 08-09, put yourself into the 2008-2009 school year and look in the left hand navigation bar under Functions for Master Schedule. If this is the first time you have clicked on this, you will get a screen that asks how you want to view the schedule. Choose all the 'All' options and then 'Matrix' (i.e. table) or 'List' before clicking Submit. If you see each of your teachers with sections listed, you can start adding students to the sections. If you do not see any sections, email the pssupport email address to let ITD know you are impatiently awaiting their assistance.


To Mass Enroll students in their "home room" sections:

  1. Under Browse Students, click on the grade level of the students you are enrolling.
  2. Under in the functions pop-up under the list of students, choose Select Students By Hand.
  3. Highlight the names of the students in the class by holding down the Apple key as you choose them.
  4. Click the Functions button at the bottom of the screen. Choose Mass Enroll from the list of options. When the screen below comes up, choose:
    • the name of the homeroom teacher from the drop down list
    • choose PM or AM; remember that for grades 1-5 and full-day kinders, you want to enroll the students in the PM section so that PowerSchool will automagically add the AM section
    • you can skip the course.section slot if you wish; PowerSchool will figure that out from the teacher/period combination
    • set the start date for the students' enrollment in the class
  5. Click Submit to commit the enrollments
